📡 Phonicom.ch is the leading online shop for amateur radio equipment in French-speaking Switzerland. Founded in February 2021 by radio communication enthusiasts, it offers a complete catalogue of HF, VHF and UHF transceivers, antennas and accessories. With the biggest brands (Yaesu, Anytone, Diamond, Xiegu) and responsive customer service run by radio enthusiasts, Phonicom has established itself as the go-to supplier for radio amateurs in French-speaking Switzerland and beyond. At Phonicom, it is the passion for radio that matters above all.
📻 The Phonicom story: a passion turned into a business
It all began in February 2021, when Rafael, HB9HPG, a keen radio amateur with a love of new technology, decided to create an online shop dedicated to amateur radio equipment in Switzerland. The reasoning was simple: radio amateurs in French-speaking Switzerland often had to order from abroad, with long delivery times, unpredictable customs charges and remote after-sales service. Rafael wanted to offer a local, reliable and friendly alternative.
The shop was originally called Radio-Boutic. Shortly afterwards, Thierry HB9HNX joined the venture and the two friends decided to rename the shop Phonicom, a name full of history and nostalgia.
📖 Did you know? The name “Phonicom” is a tribute to the legendary Phonicom SA, a telecommunications company based at Avenue Jomini 4 in Lausanne, in the heart of the Beaulieu district. Active in the 1980s and 1990s, the company specialised in the installation and alignment of radiotelephone equipment and in the development of electronic and mechanical devices. For Rafael and Thierry, who were children at the time, this shop was a true temple of technology and radio, a place that fuelled their passion. Phonicom SA was removed from the Vaud commercial register on 31 January 2002 (CHE-102.322.998). By choosing this name for their online shop, Rafael and Thierry are reviving the spirit of this iconic place for a new generation of radio amateurs.

Radio-Boutic is founded by Rafael HB9HPG. The online shop is launched with an initial range of Yaesu products.
Thierry HB9HNX joins and the shop is renamed Phonicom. In tribute to the Phonicom SA of their childhood, the shop takes its definitive name. Thierry soon takes over operational management.
Catalogue expansion: the Anytone, Diamond, AOR, Xiegu, RigExpert, Alpha Delta and Daiwa brands are added. The amateur radio catalogue keeps on growing.
Phonicom becomes the No. 1 reference for amateur radio equipment in French-speaking Switzerland. A trilingual website (FR/DE/IT), a catalogue of several hundred products and a loyal Swiss and European customer base.

👥 The Phonicom team: radio enthusiasts at everyone’s service
What sets Phonicom apart from the big e-commerce platforms is above all its team. Behind every order, every piece of advice and every delivery, there are enthusiasts who are on the air every day.
Thierry runs Phonicom masterfully, to the great delight of its customers. An outstanding radio technician, he knows amateur radio transceivers, antennas and test equipment (SWR meters, etc.) inside out. His technical expertise and thoroughness guarantee first-class after-sales service.
Rafael is the founder of Phonicom and the technical brain behind the website. He handles the management of the e-commerce site as well as its day-to-day maintenance and technical administration: configuring the IT systems, keeping the platform updated and secure, ensuring orders run reliably, not to mention setting up amateur radio repeaters and technical infrastructure. Being both an OM and an IT specialist, he gives Phonicom a fast, modern website.
🏆 Thierry HB9HNX: the man without whom Phonicom would not exist
If Phonicom has become the reference it is today, it is very largely thanks to Thierry, HB9HNX. He runs the shop from A to Z, day in, day out, with a passion and dedication that command respect. Thierry never counts the hours: he is at once the technical adviser who patiently answers every question, the order picker who carefully packs every parcel, and the human face of Phonicom that customers know and appreciate.
What makes Thierry unique is his ability to welcome everyone with the same enthusiasm, whether it is a seasoned HB3/HB9 radio amateur looking for a top-of-the-range HF transceiver or a complete beginner asking their first questions about radio. He takes the time to listen, understand their needs and suggest the most suitable solution, never the most expensive one. His honesty and integrity as an adviser are legendary in the French-speaking Swiss radio community.
Thierry is not a technician by training. In civilian life, he is a bus driver with the TL (Lausanne region public transport). He acquired his technical skills on his own, over the years, through passion, study and perseverance. He was also fortunate enough to be trained and supported by engineers from the amateur radio community, notably HB9VIN, who shared their knowledge with him. This unusual background makes his expertise all the more remarkable: today Thierry is just as much at home with vintage rigs as with configuring modern digital modes (DMR, C4FM, D-STAR). Without Thierry, Phonicom would simply not be what it is today.
💬 “We are radio communication enthusiasts and we decided to set up an online shop so that other enthusiasts can buy equipment at reasonable prices. Whatever your level, from beginner to seasoned OM, we all share the same passion.” The Phonicom team
